There is a joy to spreading some caramelized goodness on toast, on crackers or in a burger too! Join me in making that joy come alive for you, at Home. Here’s my recipe to some Good Ol’ Onion Jam.
You're going to be all cried out, but it will be totally worth it!
Ingredients:
4 large Onions halved, peeled and thinly sliced
1/4 cup Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil
2 cups Dry Red Wine
1/4 cup Red Wine Vinegar
1/2 cup Sugar or Honey
Freshly ground black pepper
Salt
Step 1
As you thinly slice the onions, throw them into a sauce pan with the olive oil (off the stove). Once all done, cook with the lid on for about 5 minutes.
Step 2
Then add in the salt and freshly ground pepper to taste, along with the red wine, on low heat. Continue cooking with the lid on for the next 5-7 minutes.
Step 3
Pour in the red wine vinegar and sugar - mix well. Cook on high heat for the next 10-15 minutes or until the mixture turns to a caramel colour.
Step 4
Lower the heat and let it simmer until it's a jam-like consistency.
Step 5
Once ready, take it off the heat and let it cool until it's ready to be served.
Serving suggestions:
Along side chicken liver paté, in a delicious juicy burger or as an add on to your bruschetta or pizza.
Bon Appétit!
